EPD – environmental product declarations for sustainable building choices

Our environmental product declarations are based on real input data and the majority of this is verified by a third party. They show the environmental performance of the products throughout their entire life cycle - from material extraction to the demolition of a property. In addition, they support the requirements for green procurement and environmental certification systems such as LEED, Miljöbyggnad and BREEAM.

We have EPDs

This helps you make environmentally conscious choices when purchasing our products. You can for example use the information to:

  • certify buildings for sustainability

  • compile decision materials for construction projects

  • create bids that clearly present climate data and have third-party guarantees

  • meet the client's documentation requirements

  • simplify and clarify the sustainability report

  • strengthen and detail sustainability communication.

What is an EDP?

EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration. A document that reports a product's climate and environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle.

Material extraction, production, use, maintenance, and disposal. In short: from the extraction of the material the product is made of until it is thrown away or recycled.

You as a customer can use EPDs as a tool to calculate the total amount of carbon dioxide for a project. But it is also an important tool to make improvements in production or to identify other material choices to reduce the environmental impact of a product.

How we present climate impact

We present how our products impact the climate on our website, in the configurator, and at the quotation level. There you can see Total-GWP for our products. GWP stands for Global Warming Potential. This means the product's total climate impact through greenhouse gas emissions. We present Total-GWP for A1-A3, which summarises the carbon dioxide emissions from cradle to gate, that is, from the extraction of raw materials until the product has left our premises. We do not have EPDs for all products. In our configurators and on our quotations, the climate impact for the products we have a verified value for is shown.

Third-party verification

Our EPDs are verified by an independent third party: IVL Swedish Environmental Institute. Our EPDs are in the EPD International database. The data set has been collected and managed by an independent consultant: Ramboll.

Our EPD values can also be found in E-number database.

The input data are real values from all stages: quantities of raw materials, waste and consumables, but also emissions from energy use and transports.

Credible and transparent

The life cycle analysis is conducted according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, and the entire EPD follows the standard EN 15804+A2. In addition, both the calculations and the EPD document are verified by an independent third party. The completed document is published publicly in an open database. The standardized calculations and the open reporting mean that an increasing number of European authorities are requiring EPDs. The Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning already requires EPDs for the envelopes of buildings, but an expansion is expected to occur within a few years. At the same time, EU initiatives such as the European Green Deal and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) are tightening the requirements for companies' sustainability reporting.
